Men Finish Fall Undefeated with South Jersey Romp

This past Saturday, the 28th of October, 2017, saw the Dragons of Doylestown marching out undefeated in their final match of the fall campaign. They were hosting South Jersey on a day that had just seen the women battle to a hard won 19-10 victory. The club was out in full support and the sidelines were full of family, friends, and dogs!

The game started off under beautiful conditions. The aggressive nature of the Doylestown defense was a tad over eager in the first frame of the match and this led to South Jersey being able to slot two first half penalty kicks, at the 3rd and 20th minutes. Their game was slow and plodding, pick balls out of the breakdown, box kicks for field position, attempts to draw the penalty. While it worked for short spurts, Doylestown was largely up to the task of stuffing the meatier South Jersey pack.

While the South Jersey men were working their strategy, the Dragon offense was in full effect. While the platform provided for the backs was shaky at times, the forwards mustered as they settled in and managed to open up nice opportunities for the line of lethal backline players.

First half trys were scored by Kevin Hockings (2), who had an early interception for the score, Eric French who crashed in under the posts, and Max Compo (2) whose weaving run left defenders in his wake after a poor kick for field position.

Halftime score- 33-6.

The second half began with try from inside center Steve Kornock after a mere 2 minutes. From there it only took him 4 more minutes to complete a hat trick with two more including one off a short kick. While South Jersey sat and watched it sail no more than a few yards, Kornock raised up, caught in on the fly, and was gone before anyone knew what had happened. Savvy play from the Man of The Match. To round out his day, the dominant 12 touched one more down in the 73rd minute and assisted on a Kyle Markovitch try in 65th.

In the second half South Jersey dotted down two trys, in the 53rd, and 70th minute respectively. One of a broken lineout defense. Altogether the Doylestown men played dominantly in most phases of the game and were happy to escape the fall season largely healthy and unscathed.

Dylan Hamilton led the offense with confidence and brought his kicking boots on a windy day. He went 8-11 off the tee on the day including some from very difficult angles.

Final score- 71-16.

The Dragons finish the season at 6-0 and are looking forward to a playoff run in the Spring.
