At Doylestown rugby we are much more than a team- we are a club and a rugby family. Our coaches, players, and parents work together to create an environment where players are encouraged to compete, learn from mistakes, support their teammates, and most importantly, have fun. Player development and safety are the top priorities.We give age-appropriate instruction and an emphasis on learning proper rugby skills and contact technique. Here at DRFC, the Academy provides a pathway for players to grow, develop their skills, and continue playing rugby all the way through their senior years.

What is Rugby?

If you’ve never watched or played rugby, don’t worry—you aren’t alone! Rugby is a fast-paced team sport that combines elements of football, soccer, and basketball, but it has its own unique set of rules and traditions. Players advance the ball by running, passing backward or sideways, kicking, and working together to create space. The objective is to score a try by carrying the ball into the opponent’s in-goal area. Unlike football, play generally continues after tackles, which means players must quickly get back on their feet, support their teammates, and make decisions as the game unfolds.

For parents, one of the best things about rugby is that there is a role for all kinds of athletes. Speed, strength, size, agility, endurance, toughness, and good decision-making all have value. Rugby also teaches kids to work together and take responsibility for one another on the field. At the youth level, the game is introduced progressively, with contact skills taught in an age-appropriate manner and an emphasis on proper technique and player safety.

The Rugby Tackle

A safe rugby tackle starts with good body position: eyes up, knees bent, and head to the side of the ball carrier rather than directly in front. Players should step in close, wrap their arms securely around the ball carrier, and use their legs to drive through the tackle.

How do I sign up?

Click the green bar below on the left, 2026 Rugby PA Registration, to register as a player for the 2026 season through Rugby PA. This will connect you to Rugby Xplorer. During the registration process players will be permitted to register for teams based on their age.

Then, click on the green bar below on the right, TeamSnap (Communication) U14 - U12 Teams, to register for TeamSnap. This is our communication platform which will have our practices, games, locations, and all team communication.
