Women’s Updates

Saturday morning we travelled with only 13 players and the outcome of the game looked bleak. We had come off of a few hard losses and a number of injuries. However, the Dragons dug deep and rallied. In the first half we stuck to our game of clean rucks and good decision making in contact to keep possession. We were able to capitalize on Norfolk‘s many penalties and gain much needed ground. That isn’t to say Norfolk made it easy! They are a strong side with fast feet. But were able disrupt their offensive game and after a nail biting finish, came out with a win! 29-25! Check out some of the drone footage provided by a gracious Norfolk supporter!

The Division 2 Doylestown Rugby Women’s team played Division 1 Philadelphia Women on Saturday, September 24, 2016, in Fairmount Park. The Lady Dragons started out slowly, allowing Philly Women to capitalize on mistakes. However, Doylestown turned it around with an excellent defensive line and allowed Philly to score only once in the second half. Although the Lady Dragons lost 34-0, it was an excellent learning match in which Doylestown got to play a higher level of rugby, and to see what was done well and what needs some work. Next up for the Lady Dragons is a home match against Brandywine on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at 11:00 a.m.

September 11th. Today we remember all those lost, those that gave their strength to rebuild, and to our country’s citizens for never giving up. Never forgetting. United We Stand.

Four of a Kind; by Rick Reilly

I left practice last night and layed down in bed too excited to sleep. Walking into the first practice, you never know what you’re gonna get. But when we asked you to show up on time, you showed up. When I asked you to work, you put in work. And when you burned out, I didn’t have to push you, you pushed each other. You showed me what I have to work with this season, a lot of heart. And I’m proud to have each one of you on the pitch with us this year.

We have 9 weeks, a tough schedule, some new faces, and some long drives. Make it count. Keep showing up. When you think about skipping practice, remember, rugby is not a right, it’s a privilege and your presence and energy on this team matters. I don’t care if you’ve played for 20 years or 20 mins (elizabeth 😋).

Fire up dragons, it’s time!

I’ll see you Wednesday at 7PM. – Coach

Dragons: It’s time to shake off the summer dust and get back into Fall Rugby! For those who laid dorment this summer, get ready to work! We will be focusing on fitness the first half of practice, and the second half to a team meeting.

Be booted and ready to go at 7PM. Tell your pals! No commitment, just a killer workout and a chance to try an OLYMPIC SPORT! WHAT!?!

Even if you can’t make the first half, PLEASE COME FOR THE MEETING! Your help and dedication on and off the pitch is what makes DWRFC great!

There will be an agenda sent via email after the current board meets next week. We will be going over team goals, the roles of the board, captains, and asking YOU for feedback! Elections for the board and captains will take place after practice Wednesday (There will be an option for absentee ballots sent out prior).

Cannot wait to see your fabulous selves back on the pitch! FIRE UP!

First Practice of 2016 was a sweaty success! Coach Mary lead us through an array of fitness and skill drills in order to shake out the winter rust. She recognized the need to wake up our “rugby minds” and pushed us the full 2 hours. From sprints to touch, we worked to find our rhythm and had fun in the process! Plus, who doesn’t like to play with shiny new balls!?

A shout out to the new faces who joined the fun: Nikki – who was unstoppable in our touch games; Lucy – jumped right into to each drill as if she’s always been a Dragon; and Colleen – this was her first time with a rugby ball but that didn’t slow her down! Looking forward to the new dynamics these Dragons will bring to our side.
Next practice is March 8th. Same time, same place! (6:30PM – Butler Elementary School, Chalfont, PA). All are welcome!
In the mean time, get a run in! Practice yoga. Die in a Crossfit class. Dance at Zumba. Pick stuff up and put it down. Whatever you choose, it’s on you to put in the work! Follow us on IG for mini workout updates! (@Doylestownwrfc)
