Dragons Finding Form Ahead of Rugby Filled Weekend
After a long week of snow predictions and weather fluctuations, the Dragons finally found themselves driving down through the cow trodden fields of Brandywine, PA on a chilly but beautiful day. The winter had decided not to rear its’ ugly head again and everyone was in for some good old fashioned rugby.
The Dragons got started, as they so often do, very quickly through the hands of the backs. It was Dave Kornock who touched down for the first points of the game. Matt Frederik followed soon behind. With injuries to both the starting centers for Doylestown, Matt Frederick moved seamlessly from tight head prop to inside center. Not an easy switch at this level. Dylan Pellegrino made his first start at prop and held his opposite number at bay throughout the match. It was a dominant display of the interchangeable nature of the Doylestown players and their willingness to help out in any way possible.
The mantra of the day for Doylestown was communication and defense. Those have been the cornerstones of training and that showed on Saturday. Offsides penalties were a non issue for the squad and there were essentially zero line breaks for the Brandywine Riot. The Dragons came up quickly and picked up their communication throughout the game.
The final score was 63-0 to Doylestown. They are sitting at 7-0 and have locked up the #1 Seed in the MAC Playoffs.
Tries were scored by Dave Kornock (2), Matt Frederick (2),Dylan Hamilton (2), Kyle Markovitch (2), Kevin Hockings, Mike Acker, and Kevin Reilly Sr.,
Veteran lock and 8-man Kevin Reilly Sr. was named Man of The Match. On his 40th Birthday no less!
This coming Saturday the Dragons will close out a historic regular season at home against Old Gaelic. Their kick off is 1PM. The Doylestown Men’s game will be sandwiched by two D3 playoff games.
