The Doylestown Rugby Garry Smith Memorial Scholarship

In 1988, Garry Smith almost immediately connected with the Doylestown Rugby Club after his arrival from Australia.  Garry coached at the men’s level and was instrumental in starting our youth and high school programs.  He dedicated more than twenty years to our club and our programs.  Garry was highly passionate about rugby, and he was 100% committed to our club.  The character of Garry Smith forged many elements of our current club culture.  He was stern when needed, but mostly, he was a teacher and steward of the game.  Garry influenced the lives of many players.  He was respected by his peers throughout the league, his players, and those who coached beside him.

In 2011, Garry lost a hard-fought battle to cancer.  He will always be honored by Doylestown Rugby.  Once a Dragon, always a Dragon.

In memory of Garry Smith, the Doylestown Rugby Club will be awarding two $1000 college scholarships: one to a member of each high school team.  The applicants for the scholarships must be seniors in high school who will be enrolling in college or trade school after graduation.

Applicants must submit answers to the questions on the attached Microsoft Form.   The application deadline is May 17, 2024.  Scholarship awards will be announced and awarded at the end of year parties.
