Doylestown Rugby Football Club News – May 17th, 2022

High School Girls’ Team
On Sunday, May 15, 2022, the Doylestown Rugby Academy High School Girls’ defeated Downingtown 29-7 at home in the Semi-Finals of the RugbyPA State Championships. Try scorers were Maddie Doyle, Madeline Rosato, MaggieAustin, and Nolah Flynn. Flynn also made three conversions and one drop goal. Downingtown had one try and one conversion. Madeline Rosato was Player of the Match for Doylestown. Doylestown, the defending RugbyPA State Champion from 2021, will take on Moon Area High School Girls’ Rugby on May 22, 2022 for the RugbyPA State Championship. The final, which is a rematch of the final last year, will be played at Penn State University  (Berks Campus). Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Junior (U15) Boys’ Team
In a heartbreaking loss, the Doylestown Rugby Academy Junior Boys’ Team fell to the undefeated number one seed, Blackthorn, in the Semi-Finals of the RugbyPA State Championships on Sunday, May 15, 2022. The Dragons scored two tries in the last five minutes of the match, and had the ball inside the 22-meter line, going for the winning score, as the match ended. The final score in the away match was 36-42. Try scorers for Doylestown were Joey Craig, Santiago Bustelo, Aaron Kelly, Marco Burns, and Alejandro Benitez. Craig also made four conversions and one penalty kick. Blackthorn had six tries and six conversions.

Youth (U13) Boys’ Team
The Doylestown Rugby Academy Youth Boys’ Team defeated Elizabethtown in the Semi-Finals of the RugbyPA State Championships on Sunday, May 15, 2022. The final score of the home match was 42-10. Try scorers for Doylestown were Jackson Hornick (2), Liam Hoey, Jackson Reilly, Owen Pudlo, and Brandon Zubyk. Jamie Weir kicked six conversions. Elizabethtown had two tries. Doylestown, the defending RugbyPA State Champion from 2021, will take on Coventry on May 22, 2022 for the RugbyPA State Championship. The final will be played at Penn State University (Berks Campus). Kick-off is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
