Doylestown Rugby Football Club News – March 12th, 2023

Men’s Team
On Saturday, March 11, 2023, the Doylestown Men’s Rugby Club began its Spring 2023 season with a convincing victory, 46-5, against Brandywine Men’s Rugby Club. Doylestown opened the game with a try by Kevin Hockings. After playing 14 minutes in Doylestown’s 22, Matthew Frederick scored another try after a full field breakaway sprint. A conversion by Jeremy Ault followed. The two former Doylestown Rugby Academy players, Jesse Capriotti and Brian Stella, scored one try each to finish the first half. Jeremy Ault kicked one additional conversion. The first half score was 24-0. In the second half, Brandywine scored first, making it 24-5. The game continued back and forth across the field until Doylestown broke away with 4 more additional tries made by Capriotti (2), Keving Hockings, and Connor Wagner, with Jeremy Ault with 1 more successful conversion by the end of the game. Doylestown looks forward to playing at Wilkes Barre on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.

High School Girls’ Team
The Doylestown Rugby Academy Girls’ Team traveled to New Jersey to play the Morris Girls’ Rugby Team on Sunday, March 12. 2023. The Doylestown Dragons were victorious, 43-31. Sydney Haddon and Reaghan King each scored 2 tries. Nolah Flynn, Nora Rosenburg, and new player, Jocelyn Terry, added 1try each. Flynn also made 4 conversions. The middle school girls fell to Morris 43-17. Doylestown played well with a team of young players, new to the sport. MJ Cashman made 2 tries and Kayla Robinson scored 1 try. Fiona Bonenberger made 1 conversion kick. The high school and middle school girls will next play West Carroll and North Bay on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Bark Bay Park in Maryland.

High School Boys’ Team
In a pre-season matchup, the Doylestown Rugby Academy High School Boys’ Team defeated Montgomery-Bucks on Sunday, March 5, 2023. The final score of the game, which was played at Central Bucks South High School, was 21-15. Montgomery-Bucks put in the first try, 4 minutes into the game. At the 10-minute mark, Nic Vyvlecka answered with a 90 meter try for Doylestown. Jack Maggio scored with a hard-fought 10-meter blast 30 minutes into the first half. With 15 minutes gone in the second half, Zack Venziale scored from the 1 meter line, with a crafty pick and go. Montgomery-Bucks tried unsuccessfully to make a comeback at the end of the game with tries at the 30-minute mark and the 34-minute mark. Tyler Darrows kicked 3 conversions for Doylestown.
