Doylestown Rugby Football Club News – November 11, 2024
Men’s Team
On Saturday, November 9, 2024, the Doylestown Rugby Club Men’s Team played its final league match for the fall season. It was a beautiful day for rugby; chilly, yet sunny with a light to moderate breeze throughout the match. The Dragons entered this contest sitting 6th in the EPRU Division 2 Men’s bracket with a record of 3-3. Their challengers: the #2 seed North Bay. This was not going to be an easy battle by any means, and the Dragons were well-aware of what they were walking into.
At 1:00 p.m., the whistle sounded and the Dragons kicked off to their opponents. North Bay was a physical and well-trained team. They put points on the board first. The Dragons did what they could, but the first half ended Dragons 7 – North Bay 31. The solo try in the first half for the Dragons was scored by Julio Marsiglia and successfully converted by Brian Stella.
With Doylestown missing a few key players and some playing out of position, the halftime speech was simple: “Keep on playing and fire up on defense.” The Dragons knew coming into this match they were the underdog and the score line at halftime proved them correct. However, there was still a whole half to play and the Dragons were not going to roll over. Even though North Bay kept racking up the score, the Dragons were able to stay relevant in the match. The final score was Doylestown 26 – North Bay 66. Doylestown’s try scorers in the second half were Julian Bellman, Brian Stella, and Matt Frederick. Brian Stella successfully kicked 2 conversions. Doug Ortiz was named Man of the Match and the Hard Hat Award went to Prince St. Cyr.
This wraps up the fall season for the men’s team. They still have two league matches in the Spring (March 15 and 22, 2025) before the EPRU playoffs begin. At this rate, the Dragons are hoping to retain the 6th seat and continue battling it out in the playoffs. Keep an eye out for
January practices. The Dragons would like to thank all the fans and businesses that support Doylestown Rugby Football Club.
