Doylestown Rugby Football Club News – March 24, 2025

Men’s Team

Saturday, March 22, 2025, provided perfect weather for a rugby match. It was sunny, with some wind, and a tad on the chilly side. The Doylestown Dragons knew this match against Philadelphia Whitemarsh was going to be a battle. This match did not disappoint.

At 1:00 p.m., the whistle blew and for the first 7 minutes, it was almost anyone’s game. The Dragons were on offense for some phases, then Philly was on offense, and back and forth it went. However, to the Dragons dismay, Philly struck first and they would not let up. The first half ended with the Dragons down 7 – 28, with their only try by Julio Marsiglia and Fionn O’Toole with the conversion.

Halftime concluded with some player adjustments and words of wisdom from the captain, Matthew Frederick. The Dragons knew they had an uphill battle to come back from this deficit, but they never quit. The Dragons received the ball in the second half, but that was not enough to allow them to continue scoring. Philly was not letting off the gas, and the Dragons were not rolling over.

This battle continued for all 80 minutes. However, at the final whistle, it was Philly who emerged victorious. The match concluded with a final Doylestown 17 – Philly 49. Second half points came from Julian Bellman and Shawn Williams, with no converted conversions. The Man of the Match was Shawn Williams and the Hard Hat of the Match was Dante Burns.

As of the writing of this article, the Dragons are slated to drive down to Philadelphia to battle against Philadelphia Whitemarsh, again, on Saturday, March 29, 2025 with a 1 PM kickoff. However, this time it is in the first round of the EPRU playoffs.
