Doylestown Rugby Football Club News – March 31, 2025
Men’s Team
The 80-degree weather on Saturday, March 29, 2025, made for an outstanding day of rugby, as the Doylestown Rugby Men’s Team traveled to Philadelphia Whitemarsh for a rematch of their game one week prior. This week, the stakes were higher, as it was the Quarterfinal Round of the EPRU League Championship playoff.
This game started much the same as the previous match-up, with each team trading possession and territory in a hard-fought first half. Philly was able to take advantage of their possessions in Doylestown territory, with 2 tries and one conversion in the first 20 minutes. Doylestown built some forward momentum and remained on attack, with Chris Muniz punching in a hard-earned try to make the score 12-5 Philly. The remainder of the first half was all Philly, as they scored tries in bunches, ending the first half with Doylestown trailing 29-5.
The intensity of the heat and play on the field led to Doylestown regrouping at half-time and planning to run some fresh players on to help the cause. Play remained intense to open the second half, with 2 quick tries by Philly, then Doylestown began to answer back. Tough, elusive running by Chris Muniz put him over the try line for his second try of the day.
The Dragons increased the aggression on defense, making some tactical substitutions and willing to take some risks to create turnovers. Breck Zwanch made the first intercept of a pass from the Philly backline for a long try. Doylestown built on the momentum of this try, with a gritty run by Dante Burns on a penalty deep in Philly territory, converted by Breck Zwanch. Joe Stella closed out the scoring for Doylestown in the second half with a try on an intercept of his own. When all was said and done, the final was Philly 51 – Doylestown 27. The Man of the Match was Chris Muniz and the Hard Hat of the Match was given to Jack Catterall.
The Dragons playoff run has concluded, and they will finish their Spring 2025 with friendlies, looking to build on the strong foundation they have built throughout league competition.

U14 Boys’ Team

Doylestown jumped out to an early lead with two tries from Brady McReynolds and Jonah Khanan. However, halfway through the first half, Blackthorn would prove why they were a state finalist from the previous season. They would not be denied! Two tries from Blackthorn evened the score to 10-10 at halftime.
After much soul-searching from Doylestown at halftime, the Young Dragons responded with 3 additional tries. The first two tries of the second half were scored by hard running forward, Brady McReynolds, who officially completed a hat trick for the day! The final Doylestown try came from a nice “pop kick” from Conor Cassidy, who caught the Blackthorn defense napping, and saw Jameson Meehan spring into action.
Meehan deftly collected the kick in full stride and proceeded to run down the right side of the field and touch the ball down under the goal posts for the try. Doylestown led by 29-10 at this point. A very nice try by the Blackthorn winger at the end of the game made the final score: Doylestown Youth Rugby 29 – Blackthorn Youth Rugby 15.
