Doylestown Rugby Football Club News – April 28, 2025

Men’s Team

On Saturday, April 26th, 2025, the Doylestown Rugby Football Club’s Men’s Team traveled up to Wilkes-Barre to play against their mates in a friendly rugby battle. Wilkes, who won EPRU D3M, will be traveling to NERFU to partake in USA Rugby’s Atlantic Super Regionals. However, they wanted to keep their annual tradition alive.

The Dragons, traveling with 17 players, made the trek to Wilkes. On a post rainy field, the Dragons ended the half up 22-0. Andrew Gilroy and Julio Marsiglia both scored a try and Nick Kaczmarczyk scored two and converted one.

In the second half, the Dragons really let loose, putting up six more trys. Julian Bellman and Brian Kelnhofer had two each, Andrew Gilroy and Nick Kaczmarczyk each had one. Kaczmarczyk converted two of those trys and Brad Delawter converted one. Wilkes scored as well but did not convert. The final score was Doylestown 58 – Wilkes 5. The Man of the Match was Nick Kaczmarczyk and the Hard Hat Player of the Match was Andrew Gilroy.

High School Girls’ Team

On Sunday, April 27, 2025, the Doylestown Rugby Academy High School Girls’ Team traveled to Downingtown to play the Downingtown Girls’ Team. Doylestown was victorious by a score of 43-26. Try scorers for the day were: Leah Cipollo (2), Lilly Fiske (1), Jocelyn Terry (1), Nolah Flynn (1), Mackenzie Marks (1), and Sydney Haddon (1). Flynn also made 4 conversions. Terra Beckenhauer was awarded the Hit Chain Award for her strong tackling throughout the match, and Bridget McGonigle was named Player of the Match (Dragon Award) for her hard runs, defensive play, and overall presence on the field. The girls will travel to Corning, NY to take on their EGRL rival, Corning Girls, on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

High School Boys’ Team

The Doylestown Rugby Academy High School Boys’ Team hosted Cumberland Valley in their fifth RugbyPA league match on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Doylestown Rugby also celebrated Senior day. Doylestown started the match strong and raced out to a 52-0 lead at halftime on their way to a final score of 85-12. Everyone received plenty of playing time in the victory. Try scorers were: Alex Stukis (3), Davis Parisi (2), Louie Cipollo (2), Jackson Reilly (2), Nick Miletto (1), Bailey O’Malley (1), Will Mauer (1), and Chago Bustelo (1). Conversions were kicked by: Jamie Weir (5), Alex Stukis (2), Louie Cipollo (1), Chago Bustelo (1), and Davis Parisi (1). The Man of the Match was Alejandro Benitez, who patrolled the back of the lineout and the back of the scrum from his flanker position. He supported play all over the field in both attack and defense. He had many hard charging runs and open field tackles.

Cumberland Valley had two tries and one conversion.

Doylestown next travels to Conestoga High School for the final league match of the season on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

U16 Boys’ Team

The Doylestown Rugby Academy U16 Boys’ Team hosted Cumberland Valley on Sunday April 27, 2025 in a RugbyPA league match. Doylestown dominated from the opening whistle and rolled to an 82-14 victory. Try scorers were: Max Smith (2), Justin Grosso (2), Nick Warren (2), Jack Sugalski (1), Finn Haddon (1), Brendon Frey (1), Gavin Sailer (1), Cross Cervellero (1), and Finn Riley (1). Conversions were kicked by Jake Beckenhauer (7), Justin Grosso (2), and Jack Sugalski (2).

Cumberland Valley had 2 tries and 2 conversions.

The U16 Dragons travel to Downingtown next Sunday, May 4, 2025 for their final RugbyPA regular season match.

U14 Boys’ Team

The Doylestown Rugby Academy U14 Boys’ Team played their fourth RugbyPA league match on Sunday, April 27, 2025 against Delaware County Youth Rugby in Media, PA. Doylestown jumped out to an early lead with three tries from Jameson Meehan, Shane McCuen, and Brady McReynolds. However, just before halftime, Delaware County Youth scored a well-worked try through the center of the Doylestown defensive line. This left the score at halftime: Doylestown 21 – Delaware County 5. From the opening whistle after halftime, the U14 Dragons poured on their offense. Doylestown scored 5 more tries before Delaware County finished the game’s scoring with a try of their own before the final whistle blew. The game ended with the Young Dragons securing their fourth RugbyPA league victory of the season by a score of 50-10.

Try scorers were: Jonah Khanan (3), Jameson Meehan (1), Shane McCuen (1), Brady McReynolds (1), Michael Farias (1), and Quinn Fragner (1). Conversions were kicked by Coor Cassidy (4) and Jameson Meehan (1). Delaware County Youth had 2 tries. The Doylestown Rugby Academy U14 Boys’ Team will play their fifth and final RugbyPA league match for the regular season on Sunday, May 4, 2025 against Philadelphia-Whitemarsh Youth Rugby in Conshohocken, PA.
