High School Boys’ Team

The Doylestown Rugby Academy High School Boys Team played in their first summer 7s tournament at Lehigh Valley on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The boys went 2-1 in pool play, with big wins over Lehigh Valley and Berks 2, and a close 22-19 loss to Jesters, which is a New Jersey select side team. The loss to the Jesters opened the Dragons’ eyes to the mistakes they were making, and they were determined to tighten their fundamentals. Doylestown played tournament top seed Berks 1 in the semifinals. The Dragons played well from the opening whistle and took a 12-0 lead. Berks scored on the last play of the half to make it 12-7. Berks then led 14-12 late in the match before Doylestown scored to take the lead 17-14 at the end. The Dragons still had to defend because the referee let the second half go on for 9 minutes instead of 7. Doylestown held and won 17-14. The Dragons then played a previously undefeated Downingtown side which defeated the Jesters in the other semifinal. The victory over Berks further set the Dragons straight and they dismantled Downingtown 38-0 to win the title!

The Doylestown Rugby Academy High School Boys Team hosted the Dragon Breath 7s Tournament on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Doylestown entered 1 U12 team, 1 U14 team, 2 U16 teams, 2 high school girls’ teams, and 2 high school boys’ teams into the tournament. So, everyone got to play a TON of rugby. Doylestown high school boys 2 played well throughout the day and opened with a strong victory over LaSalle, but then fell to Elizabethtown and Berks 2 as they lost players to the U16 side and player injuries.

Doylestown 1 raced through pool play defeating Delco 28-7, Winchester 45-5, and Try Zone (Christian Brothers Academy) 49-19. Doylestown then faced Elizabethtown in the semifinals. The match was all Doylestown from the opening whistle and the final score was 50-7. That set up a championship showdown with none other than Berks. This was a rematch of last year’s Dragon Breath 7s. The first half was very competitive with the score 14-7 to Doylestown at halftime. The message from the coaches was to keep moving the ball and stop cutting back. The boys came out on fire from the halftime whistle and destroyed Berks 26-0 in the second half for a 40-7 championship game victory!

U16 Boys’ Team

The Doylestown Rugby Academy U16 Boys’ Team entered two sides in their home Dragon Breath 7s Tournament on June 14, 2025. Doylestown 2 was comprised of new players who got valuable 7s match experience. Doylestown 1 went 3-0 in pool play by defeating LaSalle 19-5, Christian Brothers Academy 39-0, and Delco 15-5. This set up a semifinal match with well-known and well-respected rival, Elizabethtown U16. Doylestown played outstanding and posted a 19-0 shutout victory. The championship match pitted Doylestown against a very experienced and physical West Chester side which had dominated its first four opponents. The final was fast paced and hard hitting from the opening whistle. West Chester scored first to take a 7-0 lead. Doylestown immediately adjusted and went on a try scoring spree to win the match 24-7 and claim the Dragon Breath 7s U16 tournament title!
