Men’s Team

On Saturday August 30, 2025, the Doylestown Rugby Men’s Team played their 2nd preseason game of the fall against Wilkes-Barre Breakers in front of a home crowd at Maennerchor Field.

The Dragons have been training hard for the past 3 weeks, and it showed from the opening kickoff as they built a tremendous amount of pressure against a determined Wilkes-Barre side. Following several phases, Doylestown was awarded a penalty deep in Wilkes-Barre territory which led to a quick score by scrumhalf Kevin Reilly.

Doylestown stayed on the gas, maintaining a relentless pace and keeping Wilkes-Barre on their heels throughout most of the first half. The Dragons were rewarded for their efforts with trys by Caden Sailer (a penalty try), Brian Stella, and two trys from the always hard-running Julio Marsiglia. Wilkes-Barre earned a try to close the half with the score 27-7.

The 2nd half was a near carbon copy of the first half, with the Dragons playing a disciplined attack, always one or two steps ahead of Wilkes-Barre. Try scorers in the 2nd half were Kevin Reilly, Brian Kelnhofer, and Kevin Hockings. Kicking duties were shared within the team on the day, with conversions kicked by Kelnhofer and Hockings. Wilkes-Barre did not let up and put up 3 trys (one converted) of their own. Doylestown tacked on a penalty kick by Brian Stella to make the score 49-24, with Doylestown bringing home the win in their 2nd preseason match.

Doylestown and Wilkes-Barre played a final period to build experience and camaraderie between the two sides. Doylestown’s try scorers in the 3rd period were Ethan Duncan, Brian Stella, and Kevin Hockings.

Other top performances from Doylestown were Jack Catterall and Tom Wood for their punishing running style, Sean Foley’s running and tackling, and Julian Bellman’s skillset allowing Doylestown to maintain possession throughout the game.

The Man of the Match was Julio Marsiglia, with the Hard Hat being awarded to Caleb Tyksinski for his work rate on defense and around the breakdown.

Doylestown will host Penn State on Saturday, September 6 at 3:00 p.m., at the Maennerchor Field in their final preseason match of the fall season.
