Doylestown Rugby Football Club News – November 10, 2025

U16 Boys’ Team

The Doylestown Rugby Academy U16 Boys’ Team competed in the RugbyPA Fall 7s State Championship Tournament on November 1 and 2, 2025. The first match for Doylestown was against the St. Joseph’s Prep Hawks U16 Team. In preliminary Tournament play the previous weekend, the Doylestown U16s were matched up against St. Joe’s Prep and lost 21-7. So, the Doylestown boys were looking to avenge this loss. They also know, however, that it would be a challenge to defeat this tough Prep team. In the end, the young Dragons beat the young Hawks by a score of 24-5.

The next game matched the LaSalle Explorers against the Young Dragons of Doylestown. In a fast moving and explosive game, the Doylestown U16 Team bested LaSalle by a score of 22-5. The Final game of pool play for the Tournament pitted the Doylestown U16 team against their League rivals, Berks County. The Young Dragons had only defeated Berks County one time in the previous four times that they were matched up against Berks County in the season’s tournament schedule. However, the Young Dragons were not to be denied on the day and handed Berks County their second loss of the day by a score of 22-10.

In the RugbyPA State Championship Final Match, the Doylestown U16 team (3-0) were matched up against a familiar foe in the Explorers of LaSalle College High School (1-1-1). Going into the State Championship Tournament, LaSalle was ranked #2 for the season while Doylestown was ranked #3. The first half of play proved to everyone at Penn State Berks County Stadium why the young Explorers were ranked ahead of Doylestown. The young Explorers ran out to a 12 – 5 halftime lead over Doylestown. To make a comeback and win a State Championship, the Doylestown team had to recover from their first half deficit.

Their intentions did not go according to their plans when the Young Dragons allowed another LaSalle score to open the second half. This made the score 19-5 with only AJ Kelhart’s score to account for Doylestown’s only try in the first half. However, this would also mark the Young Dragons’ comeback! A Brady McReynolds try started the Doylestown comeback, making the score, 19-12. Then, a burst of speed from the speedster, Tony Bangert, leveled the score at 19-19. Doylestown looked to keep the pressure on LaSalle at this point and pushed toward the LaSalle try zone.

However, time was running down. The final movement of play was a set piece scrum that featured two Doylestown players reaching for the LaSalle goal line, but they were quickly turned back by a ferocious LaSalle defense. Then, Doylestown’s Seamus Haney picked the ball up from the base of a ruck one meter from the LaSalle goal line and refused to be stopped. Haney barreled into the try zone for not only the go-ahead score, but also the RugbyPA Fall 7s State Championship for the Doylestown U16 Team! Flyhalf, Jake Beckenhauer kicked over the converted try, sealing the Championship trophy for Doylestown!
