High School Boys’ Team
The Doylestown Rugby Academy High School Boys’ Team traveled to Elkhart, Indiana to play in the Tier 1 Club National Championships from May 21 to May 23, 2026. Doylestown entered the tournament as Pennsylvania State Champions and the #4 ranked team in the country and faced off against the #5 ranked Thunder Rugby Club out of San Diego, CA in the national quarterfinals on May 21.
Doylestown started the match strong against Thunder and opened the scoring when senior prop, Chago Bustelo, crashed over the line and Jamie Weir converted the kick to make the score 7-0. Thunder answered right back with their own try to make the score 7-5, 14 minutes into the match. Nick Miletto scored the first of his 3 tries at the end of the first half to make the halftime score 14-5 for the Dragons. Thunder started the second half on fire and scored two straight converted tries to take a 19-14 lead just 5 minutes into the second half. Doylestown quickly answered with two of their own scores to retake the lead, 28-19. Thunder and Doylestown then traded scores to give Doylestown the extremely hard-fought and well-earned victory, 35-26. Commentators noted that this was the hardest hitting match of the entire day. Try scorers for Doylestown were Chago Bustelo, prop (2) and Nick Miletto, outside center (3). Jamie Weir kicked all 5 conversions. Men of the Match were senior prop Chago Bustelo and junior outside center Nick Miletto, who combined for all 5 of Doylestown’s tries. Thunder Rugby had 4 tries and 3 conversions.
The Dragons next faced nationally top-ranked Charlotte Cardinals in the semifinals on Friday. May 22. The match started well with Jamie Weir slotting a penalty kick to open the scoring 3-0 for Doylestown. However, the Cardinals took control of the next 20 minutes of the match to take a 22-3 lead. Senior second row Timmy Fuhmeister scored a try that brought the halftime score to 22-10 for the Cardinals. The second half did not start well for the Dragons as the Cardinals ran in three tries and secured the victory. Doylestown then emptied the bench to get reserves valuable playing time in the national tournament and also to rest some of the starters for the upcoming third place match. The final score was 10-57. Scorers for Doylestown were Timmy Fuhrmeister, second row, with one try and Jamie Weir, with one conversion and one penalty kick. Charlotte Cardinals had 9 tries and 6 conversions.
The Dragons next faced Utah state champ and nationally third-ranked Cavemen Rugby in the third-place match on Saturday, May 23. From the opening kickoff, it was all Cavemen, as they were quicker and physically dominant in every facet. Cavemen ran in three converted tries to take a 21-0 lead at the 18-minute mark of the first half. Most teams would have folded after playing three physically brutal matches in three days, but not the Dragons! Aaron Kelly ran the ball wide and kicked and chased down the sideline for the scoop and score to bring the score to 21-7 as the halftime whistle blew. Players and coaches looked at each other during that halftime and knew they had plenty of fight left and it was the Cavemen who were fading. Jackson Reilly opened the scoring for Doylestown early in the second half with a quick tap and dive over the line for the try and it was 21-14. Tim Fuhrmeister added another try and it was all square at 21.
Then, Jamie Weir sliced through the defense, kicked ahead and beat the defender to touch down the ball in the try zone for a 28-21 lead. Cavemen quickly answered with a try of their own to knot the score at 28 with only 10 minutes to play. Hunter Pulford then scored out wide and Liam Hoey drove the nail into the coffin with a blazing run through the middle to give Doylestown a 40-28 lead. Cavemen ran in a try on the last play to close the scoring and give Doylestown an epic come from behind victory 40-33 to secure third place in the country. Try Scorers for Doylestown were: Aaron Kelly, wing (1); Jackson Reilly, scrumhalf (1); Timmy Fuhrmeister, second row (1); Jamie Weir, flyhalf (1); Hunter Pulfod, #8 (1), and Liam Hoey, inside center (1). Jamie Weir kicked five conversions. The Man of the Match was Jamie Weir. The Cavemen had 5 tries and 4 conversions.
Doylestown placed 4 players on the all-tournament team which means they were chosen as the best player at their position for the entire tournament. They were: Chago Bustelo, Prop; Jackson Reilly, Scrumhalf; Nick Miletto, Outside Center; and Jamie Weir, Utility/Flyhalf.
Doylestown finished the season 13-2, with both losses coming to National Champion, Charlotte Cardinals. Doylestown is the back-to-back RugbyPA State Champion. Doylestown defeated 5 teams who played at Nationals this year, including the state champions from New York, Virginia, Utah, and North Carolina, and also the Tier 2 National Champion. Doylestown is 26-2 over the last two seasons, including an undefeated tour to Ireland last year.
