Men Dragons Continue Dominant Form
It is safe to say that Fall has finally arrived in the Eastern Pennsylvania region.
Saturday’s test against the Lehigh Valley Hooligans took place on a chilly and windy afternoon in Bethlehem, PA. It was a nice reprieve from the oppressive heat of the last couple of weekends of league play.
The Dragons travelled well and had a strong showing of supporters on the sideline to root them to victory. The pitch was wide with deep try zones and the Doylestown men were licking their lips the second they saw the field.
Play led off with Doylestown receiving the kickoff. The first 5 minutes of the game saw Doylestown play aggressive defense as a line but they managed to sneak offsides twice in the first 5 minutes. This allowed the Hooligans of Lehigh Valley to set up and slot a penalty kick to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Dragons had their eyes on a shutout all week and thus a fire was lit inside them. They could no longer excuse or accept these slow starts. This one was nipped promptly in the bud as the Dragons dissected and buried the Hooligans for the next 75 minutes.
Scoring trys in the first half were: Michael Bondar, Dylan Hamilton, Dylan Pellegrino, Dave Kornock with a first half brace, Matt Frederick, and Kevin Hockings. The conversions were often from the outside and the wind was tricky. The halftime score sat at 41-3.
A huge boon to the Dragons play, throughout the game, was the line out throwing of wing Kevin Hockings. The Dragons thoroughly demonstrated their ability to address and improve upon their weaknesses.
Halftime substitutions were made as Mike Acker and Ron Beverly moved into the lineup to bring an extra boost in the pack.
Second half scores were touched down by Dylan Hamilton, Kyle Markovitch, Kevin Reilly Jr., Kevin Hockings had a second, Scott Neff, a completed hat trick by Michael Bondar with two in the second half, and a long, winding, dominating score by Mike Acker.
Final score 85-3 for another Doylestown Victory.
The Dragons sit alone atop the MAC North D2 table with a 4-0 record and a point differential of +207.
The Men Of Doylestown will be on the road at 1pm next weekend, October 17th, 2017, avenging some old wounds against Wilmington RFC.
