Men Shake Off Snow With Hit Out Against Morris
This past Saturday, the 24th of March, 2018, marked a return to the pitch for the Doylestown Men’s Rugby Club. It was a preseason tilt against Morris RFC of the Empire GCU that saw the boys springing back into action.
In preparation for the final two regular season games the Dragons scheduled a tough preseason match. Morris has had a similar list of results to Doylestown as they battled their way to a more than respectable 8-1 fall season.
Weather proved to be the first opponent as the men have yet to practice outside. The match was originally to be played at Morris but due to the snow the match was relocated to a turf field at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken. Nothing was going to stop the Dragons from getting their run in.
The match started quickly with Doylestown recovering their own ball off the kick. It only took 5 minutes for the Dragons to touch down and only 5 more to double the score. With no goal posts to kick at, conversions were abandoned for the day.
There was certainly a list of things to work on, not the least of which was the set pieces. Nevertheless the Men of Doylestown touched down for 8 tries over 90 minutes of play compared to 2 for Morris. It was a tough, dominant, yet sloppy day.
Tries were scored by Dave Kornock (2), Max Compo, Eric French, Chris Bone, Sung Kim, and Kevin Hockings (2). Lock Dylan Pellegrino was named Man of The Match for his stellar and hardened play in the loose.
The Dragons travelled with almost 30 men and everyone played at least a half of rugby. It was a great day and a great first step towards the postseason.
The Next opponent for Doylestown is Division 1 Baltimore-Chesapeake. The match is this Saturday at home at 1PM. Come support you team!
