Doylestown Men Fall to Phoenixville in a Close League Opener

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the Doylestown Rugby Football Club held its 2nd Annual D-Town Day. With a sunny and warm atmosphere, people gathered to enjoy food, drinks, a bounce house, and the Doylestown Rugby Men’s Team taking on Phoenixville Whitehorse for the first league match of the 2023-2024 season. The Dragons battled their hearts out throughout the entire match. After going down 0-15 quickly, Doylestown Prop, Alex Willouer, put away a try to give the Dragons their first score. After that, the first half ended with a score of 14-29, with an additional try by Julian Bellman. Jeremy Ault was 2-2 on conversions in the first half.

Following halftime, Doylestown came out fired up and scored first. Jeremy Ault scored a try, followed by Doug Ortiz. However, every time the Dragons reached to flip the score in their favor, little mistakes seemed to surface, keeping them behind. After an unsuccessful, extra time drive, the Dragons fell in their league opener, 40-44. Additional try scorers in the second half were Kevin Reilly and Drew Nace. Jeremy Ault went 3-4 for conversations in the second half. Doylestown’s heads and hearts are looking to bounce back next week when the team travels to South Jersey on Saturday, September 23, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
