Youth Boys’ Team

On Sunday, May 12, 2024, the Doylestown Rugby Academy Youth Team hosted the Montgomery-Bucks Youth Rugby Team in the RugbyPA State Semi-Final at the Maennerchor Field in Doylestown. The Montgomery-Bucks Youth Rugby Team rumbled to an early 12-0 lead in the first half. The early lead left the Doylestown team questioning themselves and finding little to no answers. That is, until Jonah Khanan raced along the sideline for an amazing try-scoring effort to put the Young Dragons back into the game, 12-7. Conor Cassidy converted the try to end the first half. In the second half, Montgomery-Bucks would again score a well-worked try to make the score, 17-7 in favor of the Young Griffins. However, Doylestown was not to be denied with another brilliant run by Jonah Khanan in which he was brought down with an illegal tackle. The referee determined that this infraction was, in fact, deemed a “penalty try” which awarded Doylestown not only a try, but also a conversion, as well. This made the score, 17-14 in favor of Montgomery-Bucks. As time ticked away for the Young Dragons, several penalties were committed by the Young Griffins, allowing Doylestown multiple chances to attempt a score. Finally, Crew McFerson dove into the try zone for a winning score for the Young Dragons. After the conversion attempt was unsuccessful, the referee blew his final whistle and the scoreboard displayed a 19-17 victory for Doylestown. Try scorers for Doylestown were: Jonah Khanan (2) and Crew McFerson (1). Conor Cassidy kicked one conversion. Montgomery-Bucks had three trys and one conversion. The Youth Team will play in the RugbyPA State Championship game on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Penn State Berks University.
