Doylestown Rugby Football Club News – October 28, 2024

Men’s Team

On Saturday, October 26, 2024, a large crowd packed the sidelines of the Maennerchor Field to celebrate D-Town Day, and to watch the Doylestown Rugby Club Men’s Team play Roses RFC in what was sure to be a hard-fought battle. The Dragons set the tone early in the match, with Bruce Dolan dotting down the first score in the 2nd minute. The first half saw Doylestown stay on their front foot, with some effective running and sound handling. The Dragons were able to apply enough pressure to allow their dominant runners on the day to finish multi-phased attacks with trys. The remainder of the first half saw Bruce Dolan score his 2nd try, and Matt Frederick break close to 100 tackles for two scores of his own. On a windy day, the man with the golden boot, Fionn O’Toole, slotted two conversions and one penalty kick to add to the first half scoring for Doylestown. Roses scored two trys(one converted) of their own, leaving the score at halftime 27-12 Dragons.

In the second half, there were multiple opportunities for Doylestown to put this one away, but some hard running and effective defense by Roses proved a challenge. Doylestown played much of the half backed up against their own goal line. Some brilliant kicking got the Dragons deep in to Roses territory. Conor Dolan made the most of this opportunity to continue his dominant carrying, shedding tacklers on his way to a 25 meter try which O’Toole converted. Roses were not done scoring either, notching two unconverted trys in what was a hard-fought final 40 minutes of rugby.

Final score was Doylestown 34 – Roses 22. The Man of the Match was Bruce Dolan. The Hard Hat was given to Brian Kelnhofer for his sure tackling all day, ending several possessions by Roses. Doylestown’s next game is a league match on November 2, 2024 against Old Gaelic at the Maennerchor Field in Doylestown. Kick-off is at 1:00 p.m.
